Niakwa On-Line News Brief

Back Up Next

Volume 8 No. 5   Community News & Information   November 15, 2004

In this issue:

There is a new RunTime specifically designed for Linux. Also included is a new version of NDM designed for use with the PostgreSQL database.

Those developers that have hesitated implementing a GUI should consider using Linux. Text-based presentation is more common on Linux, and Linux may provide other sales advantages over the platforms your competitors offer.

The new Linux RunTime has been certified for use with SuSE Linux 9.1 (as provided by Novell).

The new Linux RunTime began shipping October 29. Development software is available, free to renewed distributors, through the Gold Area of the Niakwa website:

If you are not a renewed distributor, but would like to know how you can receive the development software, please contact us at

NOTE: This version of NPL is designed for SuSE Linux operating environments and NDM for PostgreSQL on SuSE Linux. The use of any other distribution of Linux or PostgreSQL is NOT supported.

An SCO RunTime maintenance release, 5.01.35, has been available for download in the Gold Area of our website for some time. Since there have been no problems reported with this revision, Niakwa has begun shipping this version for all RunTime purchases.

Want PostgreSQL on OpenServer? Here it comes!

Niakwa will be updating the SCO OpenServer RunTime to 5.10 in the near future, and adding support for NDM for PostgreSQL, in addition to the traditional C-ISAM, on OpenServer. Those vendors concerned about the availability and price of C-ISAM will now have another choice. 5.10 will be entering beta soon, so interested renewed distributors should sign up today:

If you are not a renewed distributor, but would like to know how you can receive the beta software, please contact us at

Niakwa will be closed the week of November 22 - 26 in celebration of the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday.

Resets and "customer-down" emergency support will be available via email.

Niakwa wishes our U.S. customers a safe and blessed Thanksgiving!
