NPL Revision 3.2x Security Files Patch
Due to the high volume of NPL 3.2x MS-DOS based products that are being ordered, Niakwa is providing new security files that address disk compression problems (refer to TN #60) and a small number of problems reported on Pentium based systems. These patch files also include the fix for Novell NetWare 4.0x as discussed in TN #66.
NOTE: These files are the same as those currently being distributed with our Release IV MS-DOS based products. Copies of these files may be obtained from any Release IV MS-DOS based RunTime as an alternative to the methods discussed below.
Niakwa is distributing this patch with installation instructions through the Niakwa BBS or at the developers request by mail. To download the patch file from the Niakwa BBS, follow the steps shown below:
- Dial (708) 816-7420 from your modem.
- Enter your first and last name (or log in as GUEST if you are not a registered user).
- Enter your password (only required if you are a registered user).
- Enter "J 4" to join Conference 4--patches.
- Enter "F" to show the file menu.
- Enter "1" for the download menu.
- Enter "D" to download.
- Enter the filespec "NIAKSEC.ZIP".
- Enter the appropriate protocol information to complete the download.
The patch files are in a "zipped" format and can be unzipped by following the BBS instructions on this subject (from the BBS Main Menu select J for Join, 3 for General Info, B for Bulletins, and 1 for PKUNZIP Information).
NOTE: Applying these updated files to the system assumes that NPL security has not yet been installed. In the event security is installed, recall using NIAKRCLL, apply the updates to both the Gold Key diskette and the NPL files directory on the host system, and then reinstall security using NIAKINST.
The individual DOS files can be installed by coping them to the end user's file server in the directory where the NPL files are stored. For example:
COPY A:*.* F:\BASIC2C
These new files will overwrite the existing NIAKSECx.COM, NIAKMOVE.COM, and RESET.COM files in the destination directory. The new NIAKSECx.COM files are all dated 10/25/93.
NOTE: When copying the update file to the Gold Key diskette, you may note that not all of the files fit. Because of their size, NIAKSECE.COM and NIAKSECF.COM are no longer distributed on new Gold Key diskettes and can be left off of the files being copied to the Gold Key diskette.
This is a temporary solution for developers who have encountered these problems. It is our intention to update all of our MS-DOS based 3.2x product's production with these files later this summer.
